My journey

My first role in psychology was working with adults with intellectual disabilities where the lack of basic life skills being taught in school was apparent. Following this, I worked as an Assistant Psychologist conducting cognitive assessments for neurodiverse children and adults. Of those who received a diagnosis I often wondered how the education system would work for them and what support it would have to offer. This is what led me to develop Brainwaves.

My motivation

I want to give students the opportunity to develop skills so they go on to live independent and fulfilled lives. Moreover, I wanted my product to put a strong emphasis on mental health and resilience, vital life skills that students need but are often overlooked by the education system.

Resilience, the capacity to recover from setbacks and adapt to difficult circumstances, is equally important. It equips teenagers with the skills to face adversity, whether it’s academic pressure, social difficulties, or personal losses. Resilient teenagers are better able to bounce back from disappointments, learn from their experiences, and develop a positive outlook on life.

Often there is more emphasis on ticking the box of taking students through classroom material. A student with poor emotional regulation and resilience will struggle to achieve their potential if they are unable to control their emotions which often leads to high stress levels, and avoidance of school altogether. This product is designed to be diverse, interactive, and motivational.
